Public service buses run throughout the city of Havana, with no fixed schedule. There are two types of buses: metrobuses and guaguas.

 Metrobus: Modern transportation system that operates as a kind of subway. It runs only on the main avenues and connects the main points of the city. Routes P12 and P13 stop at the José Martí International Airport.

 Guaguas: Buses that travel through the neighborhoods and less traveled streets and connect with the avenues where the metrobus circulates. After 10 p.m. the service is scarce and there are usually long lines to board it.

Another excellent alternative is to take one of the minibuses offered by the different tour operators, which offer a door-to-door service. Even if you have not hired them, you can use them if you coordinate the service with them beforehand.

Outside the T3 you will find the cab stand where the companies Panataxi and Taxi Ok, which operate taking travelers to any point of the island. The ride to the center of Havana is approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic.

If you wish to freely stroll around the city of Havana, the best way is to rent a car at the Havana International Airport. The island is a magnificent place to explore and discover its tourist wonders.

 Airport facilities

The José Martí International Airport is located 15 km southeast of downtown Havana and is named after the Cuban poet and patriot José Martí. Managed by ECASA (Empresa Cubana de Aeropuertos y Servicios Aeronáuticos S.A.), currently and as a consequence of the US embargo against Cuba, no US airline can operate scheduled flights and those arriving from Miami as regular flights are considered charters.

José Martí Airport Facilities

It is the main airport on the island and operates domestic and international flights. It is the base of operations for companies such as Aero Caribbean, Cubana de Aviación and Aero Gaviota. The airport currently has 5 terminals in operation. For example, T1 operates domestic flights of Cubana de Aviación, while T2 operates charter flights from Miami and Corsair Charter Airlines from France. The most modern of the terminals is the main terminal T3, where the largest traffic operates and which was built with Canadian contributions, while T5 serves the company Aerocaribbean and other charter airlines. Finally, Aerovaradero is the Cargo Terminal. The terminals are connected to each other by a free shuttle bus service.


The Sociedad Mercantil Cubana Casas de Cambio S.A. known as CADECA, carries out the exchange and exchange of foreign currencies for convertible pesos and for the purchase and sale of national currency. Foreign currencies that can be exchanged: Canadian (CAD), Euro, Pound Sterling, Japanese Jeans, New Mexican Peso, Zuizo Franc, US Dollar (USD).
